Milford Elementary Fourth Graders celebrated National Fourth Graders Day this week! Students created crowns to wear in class that demonstrated their creativity and pride in themselves and our school. As part of their Language Arts classes, they learned that the Latin roots quar/ quad mean four. We talked about how there are 4 quarts in a gallon and 4 quarters in a dollar. Students learned about the Milford Public Schools Foundation Scholarships and were excited to learn that each one of them will be able to receive a scholarship by applying during their Senior year. We had a quarter drive and then sorted those quarters into stacks of 4 to count our collection. To wrap up this activity, Mr. Wingard, Dr. Kubicek and Mrs. Hartman were invited to our classroom for a special presentation. Student council representatives from each classroom gave a short speech and presented the collection of quarters to them to be added to the Foundation Scholarship Fund. Students were so excited to be investing in themselves and their future academic endeavors. A total of $158.25 was raised for the scholarship fund. We are so proud of these students and appreciate the help and generosity of their families.

Milford Public Schools will have a two-hour late start on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. There will be no morning preschool. Before school practices and activities are canceled. After school activities will take place. The wind and blowing snow continue to cause dangerous conditions in the country. Due to the wind and blowing snow, many roads are closed soon after the county gets them open. We will attempt to run bus routes accordingly, but will not travel on roads that have not been cleared. **We are asking for your cooperation - Please call your bus driver if you know your road is not safe for our buses and make alternate arrangements for transportation to school. At this time, we are recommending alternate transportation arrangements if at all possible, but please inform your bus driver. If you cannot make it to school, a parent must call the appropriate office to inform the school that your student’s attendance is affected by the road conditions. Elementary School 402-761-2408; High School 402-761-2525 If conditions change overnight and a decision is made to have no school, the alert system will be used along with updates on Milford Public Schools' social media. Thank you and be safe.

Drive safe--Freezing fog has caused parking lots and sidewalks to be slick. Many streets in town are slick. Highways and gravel roads are normal winter driving condition. Be careful in town, in parking lots, and walking to school as these areas are slick. Be safe.

Milford Elementary School recently held its annual Turkey Trot Race. We would like to extend a big congratulations to all of the winners! The Turkey Trot is an exciting event that brings together students and staff to celebrate physical fitness, community, and fun. This year's race was a great success, and we are so proud of all the participants for their hard work and dedication even on the cold chilly day! We collected well over 1200 non-perishable food items this year that were donated to the Milford Food Pantry. Thank you to our families for your support!

Today meteorologist Bill Rentschler from 10/11 news came to visit with Milford second graders about "weather".  He gave us a very good, informational presentation and then we got to pose with him outside of his weather vehicle.  This went along with the basal story we will be doing next week entitled "Wild Weather".
