Discovering Nebraska Through Quilts
4th Grade
On Monday, February 22 the fourth graders at Milford Elementary were able to participate in an activity called, “Discover Nebraska: Honoring Nebraska Through Quilts.” Volunteers from the Quilters Guild visited the school and shared information about Nebraska quilts. The women explained how many events from Nebraska’s history are woven into the patterns of quilts.
The students were interested to learn about all the different patterns that appeared in the quilts. After the presentation, each class was able to go back to the classroom and create their own quilt to put on display. Students who brought quilts from home were even able to share them with the class and tell the story behind each quilt.
