Alumni Story

by Jackie Roth

August 01, 2006

Stories come in all different forms from Milford Alumni. The newsletter is a wonderful tool to keep in touch as well as keep track of alumni that have moved and spread throughout the United States and the world.

Pauline Wolfe Johns has an interesting story to tell. In 1972, she graduated from Milford High School, and her travels eventually led her to settle inTelford, PA, with her husband, Terry Johns, and her daughters.

Pauline and her family were in church when a couple came to sit in their bench. Feeling rather lonely and looking at the people who just arrived, she thought she recognized a familiar face. She couldn't place a name with the face, and since she and her husband were in a leadership role, she assumed she had met the lady in one of their other assignments at another time. She didn't have a chance to introduce herself, but one week later, she was out shopping and ran into the lady who had sat in her bench at church. Pointing to each other, they stopped and asked where they might have met before. The lady asked if the name "Wolfe" was familiar to her? She couldn't believe her ears, much less her eyes! The lady said "I grew up on F Street in Milford and I think I lived across the street from you." Long story--short---Pauline Wolfe Johns met her neighbor Sarah Beckler Hansen in Telford, PA. Sarah had graduated in 1974.

A special friendship was rekindled and their family's children became classmates and friends, as well. They share lunch together once a week. What a small world we live in they exclaimed! Who would have thought they would both end up hundreds of miles away from home and meet again in a tiny church in PA? They feel God brought them together and they are "there" for each other now.

You are invited to share your stories of meeting up with people who were from Milford and have moved away and then become reacquainted. You may send your emails to gmaury@esu6.org

08/18/2010 After I graduated from Milford High school in 1985, the following fall I went to Chadron Nebraska to attend Job Corps. I graduated from there after 15 months and then stayed pretty much close to home and then moved to Lincoln, Ne, where I converted to the Catholic faith after moving in with a Catholic family while I was looking for and training for employment. Several years later, I thought I may be called to the religious life, so I entered the Poor Clare Monastery on January 16, 1991, the day the Irauqi War Started, or Operation Desert Storm as it is now known. I spent 3 years there and discovered I wasn't called.Fast forward to 1995 and I met my husband Arnold Collette after moving to Belleville, Ks. in September 1994. I am now a mother of one child and Mary (Johnson) Collette marycollette@rocketmail.com Belleville, Kansas Homemaker
