STUDENT DIRECTORY

State and Federal Regulations require school districts to have a policy on student directory information.  Student directory information is designed for use internally within the school district.  It may include the student’s name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, degrees, honors and awards received, dates of attendance at this district, the most recent previous educational agency or institution attended by the student, photograph and other likeness, and other similar information.

State and Federal Law requires the District, prior to developing a student directory or to giving general information to the public, to provide notice annually of the intent to develop a directory or to give out general information and give parents the opportunity to deny the inclusion of their child’s information in the directory or in the general information about the students.   Parents may send a letter to the school requesting the District not release any directory information of their child(ren) or request a form from the District that just needs a signature.  Sending a letter or signing the school’s document means that a student’s name will not appear in athletic programs, music programs, school annual, newspaper articles, etc.

Also, the district is required, State and Federal Law, to supply class lists including name, address and phone number to college and military recruiters upon their request.  Parents also have the opportunity to deny the inclusion of their child’s information in class lists requested by college or military recruiters. Parents may send a letter to the school requesting the District not release any directory information of their child(ren) to college and military recruiters or request a form from the District that just needs a signature.

HOT LUNCH PROGRAM

    

The school lunch program is continuing with the computerized lunch card system in 2017-2018.  All families have a separate account in which funds are deposited and drawn from by the students of that family.  Checks for lunches may be sent to the office of the Elementary School or the Jr/Sr High School, or go to www.milfordpublicschools.org to pay online. Only one check per family is required to cover lunches for all students in the family regardless of where they eat lunch.  Keeping tabs on your family lunch account balance can be done by calling the office at 761-2408 or checking our website www.milfordpublicschools.org. If you do not have your family ID and PIN, contact the office for that information.

Free and reduced lunch applications are  available in the principals’ offices at both buildings and also on our website under the lunch program tab. Lunch applications expire, so you have to fill out an application for the 2017-2018 school year.  If you have questions relating to the program, please call Tracy Yeackley at the Milford Elementary School after August 3, 2017 at 402-761-2408.

 

Lunch prices for 2017-18 are as follows:  Grades K-6  $2.65; Grades 7-12  $2.90; Adults & Staff $3.40;  Milk  $.35. Replacement lunch cards are $3.00 each.  Breakfast will be offered to students at the Milford Elementary school from 7:45 to 8:10 a.m. at a cost of $1.25 and the Jr/Sr High School from 7:45 to 8:05 at a cost of  $1.65.  Adults may also participate at a cost of $1.65.

CHILD FIND NOTICE

Milford Public Schools has the responsibility of identifying, locating and evaluating all children (birth through age 21) with disabilities that are in need of Special Education Services.  These services are available regardless of the severity of the child’s disability, and include pre-school age children, public school children, non-public school children and home school children.

If you have questions, concerns, or information about a child who may need a referral for Special Education services, please contact the District Office at 761-3321.

SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM

All children, regardless of their disability, are entitled to a free appropriate public education and an equal opportunity for education according to their needs.  The Milford Public Schools District will follow the protocols created by the Nebraska Department of Education and the United States Department of Education in identifying, evaluating, verifying, and providing services to students who may be entitled to special education services.  

Children ages 0-21 who are residents of our District, are eligible for services.  If you have a child that may need assistance in developing speech, language or motor skills, you are encouraged to call the school to discuss the evaluation/verifying process and the available services.

 

SCHOOL SAFETY - USE OF SNIFFER DOGS

Student safety is always a high priority of Milford Public Schools.

MPS has formed an agreement with Providence Working Canine to provide random safety sweeps to assist us in minimizing the presence of prohibited items on our campuses this year.  Providence Working Canine uses highly trained, non-aggressive working canines to provide random safety sweeps of our parking lots, lockers, sports facilities, commons areas, perimeters, and other areas as directed by the school district.  Their highly skilled canines and contraband teams discover more than illicit narcotics; they also discover the presence of alcoholic beverages, commonly abused medications, and firearms.  Please note that students, staff, and guests are to make certain their vehicles are free from prohibited items while parked on school property. School and gymnasium lockers are the property of the school district and school officials may inspect student lockers without any particularized suspicion or reasonable cause at any time.  The contents of the lockers are the responsibility of the assigned student. These actions are being taken to ensure a safe campus for all students, staff, and guests of MPS

HOMELESS STUDENTS

The District will provide tuition free education for homeless children and youth who are in the district and accord them the educational rights and legal protections provided by state and federal law.  Homeless children and youth shall not be stigmatized or segregated on the basis of their status as homeless and shall have access to the same services offered to other students.  It is the intent of this policy to remove barriers to the enrollment and retention of homeless children and youth in the District.  The District’s homeless liaison is the Superintendent, Kevin Wingard.  Students in homeless situations who require assistance should call 402-761- 3321 or in person at Milford Public Schools District Office at 1200 West 1st Street, Milford, NE 68405.

NOTICE OF POLICY ON OPTING OUT OF ASSESSMENTS

The Board of Education has adopted a policy for Milford Elementary on approval and denial of state and federal assessment opt-out requests, which is based on requirements in law for schools receiving Title I funding. The policy can be requested by contacting the Superintendent of Schools.

ASBESTOS STATEMENT (AHERA)

The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (AHERA) requires the inspection of all buildings in the school district for asbestos.  The district has complied with this act.  The District implemented its management plan in July, 1989, and has conducted periodic surveillance of all asbestos materials since that time. The latest re-inspection was conducted by Alfred Benesch & Company in October, 2016.  This re-inspection has been conducted to provide continuous assessment to assure safety conscious management of any asbestos materials in all buildings. The detailed plan and updated information for each building, or for the entire district, is open to public review and is located in the District Office.
