Freshmen Orientation Night a Huge Success

by Kim Riley

More than 100 people filled the high school auditorium Monday
night for the inaugural Freshman Orientation NIght. "It was a
great turnout of freshman and their parents," Mr. Fields, high
school counselor said. "I really appreciate that parents took
time of their night to focus on their child's education and
that the students wanted to see what teachers and
administrators expect of them as freshmen."
Mr. Fields covered a wide range of topics, including graduation
requirements, time management skills, study hall expectations,
and more. Three teachers presented classroom expectations and
how the academic rigor of high school differs from that in
junior high. Mrs. Meisman addressed science classes, Mrs.
Kontor spoked about geography, and Mrs. Seibel shared English class expectations.
Overall, it was an informative night that gave parents a
glimpse of what an exciting adventure their freshman child is ready to start.
Many parents and students finished the night by touring the
renovated bathrooms and the new FCS room in the south end of the high school.
"This was a great night," Mr. Fields said. "We'll definitely
make this a part of the freshman experience again next year."
