Heritage School
The fourth graders at Milford Elementary were able to experience what a day of school would have been like in 1892. On Tuesday, November 24, Mrs. Baack’s and Mrs. Frey’s classes had the opportunity to go to the Nebraska Historical Museum for the Heritage School field trip. The school has been moved to a new location at Pioneers Park and was not ready for opening yet, so the museum allowed the students to have their experience there.
While one class was taught in a one room school, the other was able to tour the museum. The students wore pioneer clothing and brought their “old fashioned” lunches in paper sacks. The school teacher, Mrs. Henn, made sure the students sat quietly with straight backs while they worked problems on slates and practiced penmanship. The fourth graders had a wonderful experience and enjoyed their day, but most wondered if they could go to a school like that every day!
