Annual Harvest of Harmony Parade in Grand Island!

October 09, 2008
On Saturday, October 4th, the Milford High School Marching
Band participated in the annual Harvest of Harmony Parade in
Grand Island, Nebraska. Each year, Bands from all over the
state travel to Grand Island to take part in the event - the
largest of its kind. Bands are judged by area music
professionals in the areas of marching, music and general
effect. Trophies are awarded to the top Bands in each class
based on the judges' scores.
This year 88 Bands competed - 17 in class B. Milford High
School won 1st place in class B and seventh place overall.
Phil Goddard, Director of Bands at Milford said he was
pleased and surprised when he found out the results Monday
morning.
“I'm in a bit of shock,” he said. “We did not do as
well at the Applejack festival in Nebraska City two weeks
ago and this is certainly unexpected. The kids worked very
hard the last week and it seems to have paid off. Our
football boys were fresh off of a victory at Falls City just
hours before the Band buses left Saturday morning. They
gave 100% even though I know they were tired. I'm just very
proud of the effort from all of our kids and everything they
do. They find success in many places."
Mr. Goddard is assisted by Flag Team coordinator Christy
Ruhl and Drum Majorette Marisa Esch.
The High School Band boasts 97 members this year. Their
next public performance is the Winter concert in December
and you will hear the Pep Band throughout the basketball
season. Congratulations to these students for this
outstanding accomplishment.
