Tuesday, April 24th was National Teach Children to Save Day and Jamie Hackbart and Laura Peterson went to speak to the second graders at Milford Elementary. In the picture, they are showing Jamie their Presidential $1 coin bookmarks they received. The students also received a “Saving Money is Cool” activity book, colors, another bookmark and a sheet about their Star Savers accounts for kids. This was the 7th year that Jamie and Laura have made this presentation for Farmers & Merchants Bank. It has been enjoyable for them to share this savings lesson with the students.
The kids are very interested in ways to save money, unique and cool piggy banks and keeping track of their account and earning interest. The second graders gave many examples of how they earn money at home and how they can save up for their future purchases. Jamie and Laura also handed out proof and coin sets to pique the student’s interest in coin collecting. In addition to several bills were displayed that show the counterfeit/watermark security features.
