Milford High School qualified 11 students who participated in the Nebraska State High School Speech Tournament. Those students were: Brandy Frey, Josh Wiley, Clee Shy, Shannon Arena, Chase Jones, Alex Hull, Brad Rediger, Savana Riley, Sarah Penry, Cori Curtis, and Hannah Troyer.
The tournament was held at Kearney on March 15, 2007. Each qualifier performed twice in the preliminary rounds to determine contestants in final competition. Usually the top six contestants make it into finals; in case of a tie, then there are more finalists.
Those making it into finals were: Cori Curtis in Persuasive and Poetry; Sarah Penry in Persuasive; Brad Rediger in Informative and Duet; and Savana Riley in Duet. The OID (Oral Interpretation of Drama) team of Savana Riley, Chase Jones, Shannon Arena, and Clee Shy narrowly missed going into finals by one point and ended up 7th in the competition.
Congratulations to the Milford speech team for finishing the year 4th out of 56 C-1 schools. Individual medalists were Sarah Penry, 5th in Persuasive; Brad Rediger, 4th in Informative; and Cori Curtis, State Runner-Up in Persuasive and State Champion in Poetry. Brad and Savana also placed 8th Duet Acting.
The state meet capped an extremely successful season for the Milford Speech Team. Congratulations to the entire team for a very successful season. The team is coached by Audrey Mathiesen.
