From the Desk of Mr. Fields
by Lloyd Hanneman
November 28, 2006
Here is the college timeline for the months November and December, taken from Mr. Fields website:
November
1. The December 2 SAT exam will be given in Lincoln.
Registration deadline is November 1. Register on-line at
www.collegeboard.com.
2. Most colleges will not change financial aid packages if you
submit an ACT score after the December test. So, if you're going to
retake the ACT one last time, the registration deadline for the
December 9 test is November 3. Apply on-line at
www.actstudent.org.
3. It's time to be submitting applications for admission. You'll
need to work with Mrs. Satchell to submit a transcript for you.
Most applications are now on-line. You'll be asked to submit a fee
as well as personal information. Scholarship applications from the
specific colleges should be available as well.
4. It's time to write your activities resume. Samples are available
from Education Quest website: www.educationquest.org. Some
applications for college admission and most scholarship
applications require an activities resume.
5. Attend the November 2 financial aid night at MHS. It will be
from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. An Education Quest
representative will explain how to complete the FAFSA form required
for financial aid. Tax information from 2006 will be needed for
both student and parent when you actually complete the form.
Education Quest will accept appointments in January and February to
submit the form for you if you wish, but you will need to collect
the appropriate data.
December
1. Submit applications for admission and any scholarship
applications you have completed. Request any required letters of
recommendation. Remember no one is available at school while we are
on Christmas break December 21 - January 2. Any official transcript
or recommendation needed by January 1 must be submitted before
winter break.
2. UNL, UNK, and UNO admissions and scholarship forms are due
January 15. Board Of Trustees scholarships for Wayne, Peru, Chadron
State are due January 15.
3. The December 9 ACT is the last opportunity to submit scores to
the university system for Regents scholarships. The registration
deadline for the December exam is November 3.
4. If you're registered, take the December 2 SAT exam.
5. The January 27, 2007, SAT exam will be given in Lincoln.
Registration deadline is December 20. Register on-line at
www.collegeboard.com.
6. If you have not already done so, visit the Education Quest
Center in Lincoln. They have scholarship searches, materials on all
colleges, career programs, and the capability of helping you
estimate your family financial need before you file the FAFSA. The
EQC will also file you FAFSA electronically for you in January if
you wish. (Do this. They're experts at this process! Plus, it's
free.)
