BOARD OF EDUCATION
MILFORD PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT #5
REGULAR BOARD MEETING
OCTOBER 9, 2006
The regular meeting of the Board of Education was called to order by President Welsch.
Administration: Kevin Wingard, Superintendent, T.J. Meyer, Secondary Principal, Penny Jans, Elementary Principal.
Roll Call: Present – Dave Welsch, John Aden, Larry Lindquist. Jim Stahly arrived at 8:00 p.m.
Absent – Karen Stauffer.
Guests: Ben Dempsey, Nancy McGill.
President Welsch drew attention to the Nebraska open meeting law posted at the meeting.
Public Comments: None
Approved minutes from the September 11 meeting.
Approved October expenditures – General Fund - $449,939.59; Employee Benefit - $350.
Mrs. Jans reported on upcoming events.
Mr. Meyer congratulated the softball team headed to the state softball tournament. School will be cancelled Thursday for teachers and students to attend the tournament in Omaha. Ritchie Walker will be the speaker at the Veterans Day program.
Mark Olson reported on the Nebraska Student and Staff Record System being implemented in the district.
Mr. Wingard reported on the meetings with architects.
Building Committee Report: The committee will meet after the meetings with the architects. A community meeting is tentatively set for November 6.
A video explaining the possible effects of Amendment 423 was shown.
Approved adding Art as a Fine Arts Activity that qualifies for lettering using the criteria presented.
Approved the calendar changes – Thursday, October 12 for girls state softball and early dismissal on February 27. District speech will be held in Milford on February 27.
Moved to executive session for the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual to discuss extra duty assignments.
Returned from executive session.
Approved the updated extra duty assignments as presented. Steve Carritt was approved for assistant girls basketball coach and Phil Stauffer as freshman coach.
Moved to executive session for the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual to discuss school board applicants.
Returned to regular session. The Board discussed applicants for replacement of school board member. The following have submitted applications: Tony Roth, Sheila Burroughs, Scott Bashore, Bonnie Stauffer, Kimberly Rempel, Mike Burton, and Ron Welch. The Board will conduct interviews in conjunction with the November board meeting.
